Members of the Kajiado County Assembly have raised a concern towards the handling of ward projects funds by procurement department.
The County Assembly put the Procurement Department on the spot asking the Executive arm to decentralise the department to the respective ministries. Hon. Francis Kaesha, MCA for Oloosirkon Shollinke Ward had tabled a motion to change the allocation of the High Mast installation project at Tuala Town set for Ksh 2million. The ward rep said that a willing Donor had donated Ksh 0.5million to the community which saw 17 solar street lights (masts) installed in the centre.
In his contribution Hon. Justus Ngussur MCA Ewuaso Inkidongi said that the Assembly shall intensify cross- checking of the allocated funds for all projects in the County to ensure that public funds are utilized to the intended projects.
” It is a concern that the procurement department had allocated Ksh 2million for the installation of a single high mast light yet a donor did 17 street lights in the same area spending Ksh 500,000 therefore it is paramount that we exercise our constituTional mandate to oversight and ensure that public funds are utilized as required.” said Hon. Justus Ngussur.
Further, Hon. Paul Matuya has also called on the decentralization of the procurement department to the line ministries in order to ensure that public funds are efficiently used for the benefit of the Mwananchi.
Kajiado County has one central procurement department.
