SAMBURU COUNTY JOINS NAROK-KAJIADO ECONOMIC BLOC

The Maa leaders drawn from Kajiado, Narok, Samburu, Laikipia, Isiolo, Baringo and Marsabit today converged at the Lake Naivasha Sawela Lodges in a meeting convened by the Narok-Kajiado Economic Bloc.

The forum brings together leaders to discuss issues affecting the Maa community.

Some of the issues include Mau evictions, banditry in Baringo, ethnic conflicts in Samburu and Laikipia among others.

The forum also sought to incorporate Samburu County into the economic bloc.

While addressing the forum, the Kajiado Deputy speaker Hon. Daniel Kokan suggested need to establish a strong frameworks to govern the operations of the economic bloc. He also called for expansion of the steering committee that includes representatives from various demographics.

An agreement to include Samburu County was signed by the governors of Kajiado, Narok and Samburu.

The summit resolved to identify common flagship projects to be financed jointly.

The push to have Ilchamus community get their own constituency was discussed and included among key deliverables moving forward.

The Narok-Kajiado Economic Bloc Act 2021 will be amended to Maa Economic Bloc to incorporate all maa communities.
